In my work series “Floral Passion” I show insights into the diverse world of female sexuality through the flower.
For centuries, the vulva has been relegated to the pubic corner, while the phallus, as an omnipresent symbol, embodies power and dominance. As a young schoolgirl, I was taught that this male symbol is omnipresent in nature and anchored in our culture. If you look closely, you can see the phallus everywhere, according to a teacher at the time. It was also the first thing most people scribbled on blackboards and walls in the snow. We encounter these depictions everywhere.
Today I am consciously focussing on female symbolism. I am particularly fascinated by the multitude of vulvas that are revealed in flowers, blossoms, buds and other plants. With my Floral Passion series, I invite the viewer to change their perspective.
The works are in 20 x 30 cm and 35 x 35 cm format and are presented in square frames. I use white acrylic paint and an opaque white fineliner on black paper.
